Becoming a Parish Councillor

There are nine seats on Gringley on the Hill Parish Council.  Elections are held every four years, with the next ones due in May, 2010.  However, there are occasionally casual vacancies created by people leaving the Parish Council for one reason or another.  Please contact us if you are interested in becoming a parish councillor. 

You must comply with one of the following requirements: 

Ÿ         be a local government elector for Gringley on the Hill 

Ÿ         have during the whole of the preceding 12 months occupied as tenant or owner any land or other premises in Gringley on the Hill 

Ÿ         have your principal or only place of work in the preceding 12 months in Gringley on the Hill 

Ÿ         have resided either in the Parish of Gringley on the Hill or within 3 miles of it during the whole of the preceding 12 months 

There are also certain disqualifications, of which the main ones are: 

Ÿ         holding a paid job at Gringley on the Hill Parish Council 

Ÿ         bankruptcy 

Ÿ         having been sentenced to a term of imprisonment of not less than three months during the preceding five years 

Ÿ         being disqualified under any enactment relating to corrupt or illegal practices
